I don't get it on the total number of ...Seamus

I don't get it on the total number of PPS numbers issue to Foreign Nationals in 2010. With both employed and unemployed decreasing in this group, why 69000 new PPS numbers.

1. The children of existing non nationals? Are they too classified as non nationals here.?
2. The registering of the previously non working spouses / partners that were in the country but had no PPS numbers until 2010?
3. Foreign National registering in Irl to get an Irish (EU 15) registration number to be used in countries that still restricted labour mobility?

I suppose it is best to leave all that the Dept of Social Welfare!
Though it might be no harm to do a recall / verification of all PPS numbers in the system. It might throw up surprising results.Joseph Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07581632829548894401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2826531655042170344.post-89754183575646956572011-07-02T23:52:19.009+01:002011-07-02T23:52:19.009+01:00Seamus
I am interested in a comment you made on t...Seamus

I am interested in a comment you made on the IE blog:
"Outward migration could be as high in 2009 and 2010 as the ESRI projected but the evidence to support that is lacking, particularly in the case of Irish nationals."

Yet, the CSO published data on new PPS numbers for foreign nationals 2006-2011 which amount to 650K (I have added a 2010 figure of 69K from an Ir Times article to the CSO figure).I understand the data comes from the Dept of Soc and Family affairs.
http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/labour_market/current/ppsn.pdf

The number appears extraordinarily high.
Even the Ir Times article of 69000 new PPS numbers to Foreign Nationals in 2010 seems absurd.
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0111/1224287237364.html.
Accepted at face value this should mean that 69,000 jobs went to new foreign national last year, a year which saw a rise of 15,000 in unemployment.
One has to wonder if theses are people looking for PPS numbers just to sign on and claim social welfare?
Is it valid to assume that new PPS numbers issued should correspond to new jobs or would the Dept issue new PPS numbers to enable Foreign Nationals to sign on?Joseph Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07581632829548894401noreply@blogger.com
